Office of Primary Responsibility: Office of Administrative Policy and Services/Office of Management Services

Instructions: The August 11, 2003, issuance of this chapter is revised to authorize the Associate Directors to approve space below the $2 million/$5 million threshold for areas under their supervision outside of Reston. See Appendix A, section E-4. No other changes were made.

1. Purpose. This chapter delegates authority necessary to carry out specific real property management functions at the U.S. Geological Survey.

2. Authority. In Part 205, Chapter 10 of the Departmental Manual, the Secretary of the Interior delegates real property management authority to the Assistant Secretaries. The Assistant Secretary-Water and Science redelegated this authority to the Director in 220 DM 5 and in 220 DM 10. Managers and supervisors do not relinquish the power to exercise the authority being delegated to their subordinates.

3. Policy. General provisions regarding policy and limitations on delegations are established in Survey Manual Chapter 200.1 Delegations, and general provisions regarding policy and guidelines on redelegations are established in SM 200.2 Redelegations.
