The Science and Decisions Center includes capacity, infrastructure, and mechanisms to integrate science and management for the DOI agencies and other partners. It functions as a central node for networking and collaborating with existing expertise within USGS as well as the broader conservation community, including other federal agencies, universities, nongovernmental organizations, and the international community. Center staff leaders in adaptive management, ecosystem services, and resilience build operational linkages among the elements of the Center's science portfolio.

Center Mission:
  • Develop and apply decision science to natural resource issues
  • Provide a point of coordination and communication for USGS scientists in this work
  • Facilitate the use of adaptive management by DOI partner agencies
  • Integrate ecosystem services and resilience concepts into the DOI science and management framework
  • Conduct scientific investigations in these areas

The Center's ongoing projects in support of science for decision making include field studies, cooperative agreements, books, articles, and conferences.
