What is Public Participation?

Public Participation is the direct engagement of all voices in a planned effort to make responsible and sustainable decisions.

Eight Key principles of Public Participation:

  1. Establish clear commitment to excellent Public Participation
  2. Base the level of Public Participation on the Agency's intent
  3. Be transparent in all actions
  4. Ensure all voices are heard
  5. Focus the process on the public interest and values
  6. Value relationships
  7. Base decision making on good information
  8. Invest in the necessary resources in planning public participation
