Using Landsat Data

A number of artifacts and anomalies can happen to any remote sensing data. Banding, dropped scan lines, and detector failures are only a few of the anomalies that can be seen in Landsat data.
This is a common question considered by all users of remotely sensed data.
Landsat data products can be downloaded at no charge from the following sites:
The USGS File List Ordering page allows you to enter lists (up to 500 Landsat scenes) and see which scenes are downloadable immediately, which scenes need to be processed, and the scenes that are not available.
Many image processing programs *(ERDAS IMAGINE®, PCI Geomatica®, ENVI®, IDRISI®, etc.) can import a variety of image formats, including the GeoTIFF files of Landsat data.
