What are the oil reserves in the Bakken Formation?

USGS resource estimates are different from oil reserves estimates.  Undiscovered, technically recoverable resources are those resources that have yet to be found (drilled), but if found, could be produced using currently available technology and industry practices. This link goes to the latest assessment of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas in the Bakken Formation. In contrast, reserves are that portion of the oil resource endowment that is discovered, recoverable, and commercial.  For production information in the Bakken Formation, check with the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas Division, and/or the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Board of Oil and Gas Conservation.  For more information and statistics on current U.S. and World oil production and drilling activities, please visit the U.S. Energy Information Administration website.
