Striping (termed as banding in this explanation) may be seen in a small number of Landsat 8 scenes- this is caused from discontinuities between the 14 Sensor Chip Assemblies (SCAs) on the OLI instrument. It can be seen in OLI bands 1 -5, and 9 in Figures 1 and 2 below.
The satellite’s SWIR Bands 6 and 7 are also affected by the ‘banding’, but in addition, by striping caused by inaccurate inputs of the Response Linearization Look Up Tables (RLUT) (see fig 3 below).
This extra striping affect has been decreased, since update was done to the RLUT on August 9, 2013
